here's the update.....
Took the drive up to Mission Viejo to meet the guy behind OC rods and I must say it was a pleasure to meet him (thanks Tony for the hospitality of you and your family).
I did inspect and and test these rods to find that these are actually really nice rods.

the inserts shown are proven to be heavy duty in the accidental test...I actually dropped one of his rods guides first on his driveway and there was no problem at all
I did like these rods and came home with one.
Aside from the rods, he also carries an assortment of lures in sets neatly arranged in lure keepers....

Lots-o-stuff to look at, even a wall full of freshwater sticks...bass rods and lamiglass noodles.
Oh yeah forgot to add that he even has many styles of polarized glasses.
The upcoming charter will be the real test for OC rods and I have no doubt that they will hold up.
