I got into some real fast current with major snot offshore, so ordered them. Now just bring them along.
The sidekicks add an insane amount of stability and don't really get in the way as I expected them to, so not really any reason not to use them. If I want to reach behind me and grab another rod, or a sandwhich, the kayak doesn't get all tippy.
I'm still not brave enough to try standing with my 6'5" clumsy frame though.
