I just roll my PA into the water backwards and lift up just a little bit from the side in about a foot or two of water and reach under to pull out the wheels. I do the exact same thing to put them back in when done fishing. I get wet just below my knees and up to my elbow on my right arm removing and reinstalling the wheels. Not a big deal in winter since I wear waders and no rash on the side of the boat.

Not sure how you transport but I use my truck bed most of the time and pull it out just past the scupper holes, install the wheels then roll it to the water. When using the truck rack, I pull it off so the stern is sitting on the ground and bow is still up on the rear rack rail then install wheels. When loading, I lift the bow and set it on the rear rack rail and then I pull off the wheels before lifting the stern and pushing it up on the rack. The only thing that touches the pavement is the rear skids near the drain plugs and those are replaceable when they get worn out.
