I paddle out and paddle in. I have flipped a few times. There are times when the sets are coming so fast, I peddle in and use the rudder to track straight. When I peddle in I use the bungee to keep the drive up when I jump out. I never flipped using the peddle method, probably because I get in so fast. The problem is the rudder gets to much pressure applied when digging into the sand or hitting the rocks.

The best overall method I am finding is getting as close to the break as you can, wait for the big set to go by and paddle like heck to get out of the pound, jump out and walk the yak in the rest of the way.
