This is a good idea. I also like to put it on an old reel I never use. I mount it to a work bench or something and spool it on there half assed. I then set the drag light, but enough to create good tension and reel it in with the rod I'm intending to spool, again keeping the angle straight and not using the rod or guides at all, straight reel to reel. Make sense?
