I like using the surgeons loop, easy and strong.

Also, when fishing in conditions where the bait is all gathered on the bottom, sometimes 5feet thick, I like running an extra long tag line for the weight, like 5-6ft....this keeps your bait from hiding against the bottom with the rest of the bait when the preditors come thru, making your freaked out bait stick out like a sore thumb.

With the smaller easily inhailed baits i like using large 5/0-7/0 circle hooks. Reel out of gear, bait clicker on, drag set.
