Took the SS Xfactor on an icebreaking mission

Went out to do some freshwater fishing with my buddy (Catchnfish) at Silverwood lake on Sunday. It was his first time in a kayak, so the main intent was to get him comfortable in his new stealth 12 and any fish would be a bonus.

It was a much nicer day than predicted with some snow on the ground from the previous day. We trolled around and I got a couple of strikes but nothing on the hook. Got to a point in the lake where it was frozen for a section of about 20yds but could see moving water on the other side and figured I would see how well the xfactor can plow through ice.

It was awesome, the ice was thin probably no more than 1/2" at the thickest and the xfactor cleared a path for my buddy to bring his stealth through behind me.

Had a great day, he picked up 2 nice trout and I got nada. I'll let him post his fish pics if he took em but these are some I took while on the water.

Looks warm yet cold. Since our fishing license includes both salt and freshwater I'm going to start looking for freshwater gear.......we're already payig to fish in it so why not take advantage of it.

The X-Factor:

Feels like a tank
Slow like a tank
Turns like a tank
Makes its own way like a tank

The X-Factor is the tank

Yeah I had my 7mm neoprene duck hunting waders on, I stayed nice and toasty.
What I didn't plan on was the sun to be out so I didn't put on sunscreen and I got hit with the waterglare and the snowglare. My face looks like a frikin racoon

Where is there a good place to launch at silverwood? I would love to take my kayak there when the weather warms up.

They have a hand launch in cleghorn cove. Just hang a left as soon as you go through the pay booths and follow it to the end, back straight down the launch and enjoy. Its a tough lake to fish and it usually gets windy. But it holds some big striped bass, you just gotta get a hook in front of em.

just an open hatch inspection, no quarintine period like Casitas

YakMedic 03-03-2011 08:01 AM

They just do a quick walk around and make sure its dry, ask the last place it was in the water and let you go. Insider tip... don't wait in the boat inspection lane they'll check your yak in the vehicle lane and save yourself 30min.
