storm wildeye type lures?

The "spinning vs. conventional" thread got me thinking about east coast / west coast differences. Coming from NJ, the storm wildeye soft plastic swimbaits with the internal lead head were all the rage. When I came out here, I found hand poured baits with jig heads to be the standard. And of course I know they fish very well, and the color selection allows you to imitate "critter" colors like the orange and brown very well that most factory swimbaits don't seem to offer. Plus the wildeyes seem to better imitate a "chunkier" body type, like shad, bunker or herring. Any other reasons they didn't catch on here?

That said, I just saw storm has put out some narrow profile internal lead head swimbaits in anchovy and sardine that must work well here. [picture of sardine below] anyone use them with success? I ordered some 4" and 5" and will be glad to report back.

Happy New Year everyone

Storms look great but seem to lack the enticing tail action. I have caught fish with them, but have not bought any in years.

Yeah, When i first stared kayak fishing i bought a few of those. they were fun for a while. Then, (drum roll please) on a warm summer afternoon, i made an amazing discovery. LIVE BAIT!! :star:

Same with me. The guys at Squidco had me buy a bunch of those lures when I first got started. I played with them in the pool and have dragged them around the fishing grounds but have never gotten a bit on one of these lures. I have a dozen or so that I still carry around with me. One of these days I will put one one again and hopefully catch something.

A couple years in, I have learned that live bait works best for the pelagics and lead head plastic works best for bass in the kelp. Not that I catch many of either.

Maybe the west coast fish have a bias as well.

Kind of like that candy mac hard lure I bought at the FHS that cost $30.All it caught was me...

They seem to drag through the water a bit slow for me. Getting to the zone or bottom quickly is important when drifting...
