stealth 14 rigging Q

Well I took my kayak out to get a better feel for it and practice how to peddle. Still need work on surf lanch but nothing beats then just doing it. So i want to start setting it up for fishing. What do you guys keep in the front hatch?? what about the rear hatch?? From what i did notice was that the front rod holders cant be used if you want to paddle. The front hatch Is not something i would open out in the ocean. Its the way it fits and must me put on just right to seal. Does anyone on here has any pics of S-14 rigged. I want to order some nylon Pad eyes. Bungee/cord and ends. One of the things i will do is secure the front hatch with an extra bungee. Any advice and pics and maybe an explantion of what works and why would be highly appreciated.

If you want some general ideas:confused: check out the Share Your Innovations thread or go on Youtube.....that's how I got most of the ideas for my yak. Even if someone post something about a yak that is a different brand or model it will help you with what you want to do or at least lead you in the right direction. It's almost guaranteed that you'll do something:rolleyes:, scrap it:mad:, do it again:luxhello:, scrap that idea/plan for whatever reason:confused: and probably do it again:(.

Get ready for those multiple trips to OEX, Westmarine, Home Depot and wherever else you can find supplies. It's always a good idea to keep some sort of notepad near your work area and write down your ideas or needed supplies as they pop into your head.

Oooh, almost forgot, hope you have some money saved up cuz............ Yes, I'm speaking from experience.

Man you got no idea how many YOU TUBE clips i watched lol. There is very little with S-14 in there. Also had never seen anyone post anything about using the rear hatch. Its almost why the rear hatch is there if no one uses it. Oh yea i got the milk crate and it dont realy fit in the back unless its way in the back of the kayak. I do like the way many people use the milk crate. Is there a small milk crate that would fit in there??

Keep it simple

To keep it simple, I bought a crate at office depot that fits percect. I added three rod holdersto the back side and a holder for my gaff and hand pump on the inside of the crate. I keep my Battery Boxes inside the rear hatch. I only use the Front hatch for stowing rods when launching / landing. The Stealth 14 can be set up any way you want it. I just don't like to over load any Kayak. I carry a six pack cooler and when that is empty it's time to go home.

Try the container store at Fashion Valley for a better fitting Milk crate. They have square ones that will probably fit. The other thing to thing about for your live well or whatever is a soft cooler, or even so hard cooler and attach your rod holders to that.

Believe me if you watch Youtube about the Kayak Rigging, you can find things that will work if you want them to. Most of all rig your kayak to fit your abilities and/or what you want to do. If I tell you what I did with mine, that may not work for you, and so on. I have however seen things that people have done and copied or tweaked a little to fit my needs. This is the fun part of owning a Kayak.

I tell customers that that big ol bow hatch is like the trunk of your car, 9 out of 10 trips you never open it. There may come the day where you want to slip a big fish in there and there may come a day when stowing your rods for landing will be a good idea.

The rear hatch in my opinion makes for good unlikely items needed on the water. I usually set up the battery here, good place for emergency items/first aid and a drift shoot.

Thanks guys. I been looking at you tube and googled kayak rigging as well. For now i plan on a crate in the back ( office depot is close to my house) Add 3-4 rod holders in there for things. The rest of the things i were planning on keeping in the center hatch and the smaller side hatches. I like the idea of first aid kit in the back hatch.. What does everyone keep for first aid kit on a kayak??
As for the six pack and smokes it wont work for me as i dont smoke and dont drink lol..... Yea i know im going to die healthy man.
I need to practice openning the front hatch and closing it in the ocean.. Not crazy about the seal on it. I got an idea on how to make it better and would post pics after its done.. I guess im going to start taken pics of what i do as there arent many of S-14.
