VHF radio channels
i received a vhf radio (thanks Danny) and was wondering which channels do you use?? i currently programmed channels 24 through 28 and 84 through 87 and of course 16. is there other channels i should monitor for fishing traffic?
thanks |
Really the only channel you will need to be on is 16. And a channel to talk to your buddies on. Being on a kayak limits the distance you can cover to get on any fish. Don't get sucked up in others reports of fish over the radio. If you do you will figure out in time that its mostly bs. It is way more satisfiying to find your own fish not someone elses!.

fish talk isnt so much for finding fish but just to hear chatter and see how everyone is doing.
|
How are you going to catch fish when your worried about how everyone else is doing? Whatever....:linesnap:..
|
seems like there is a lot of talk on channel 72 whenever I turn it on
|
Most yakers use 69 and 71, and PB'ers use 72, I believe. I use my scan feature to monitor the above 3 channels.

81 for me

thanks guys hope to hear you excited with something big soon

I use 68 when I know some friends are in the vicinity tuned in; I think is time kayakers in La Jolla tune into the same channel, then everybody knows what's going on and who's in the area, etc. So what channel can we use?
|
That's a good idea to use the same channel - maybe one that is related to the area zip code or local address near the launch area.... Or the website, something that is easy to remember.... in case I get confused!
roadx: this is a link to a uniden radio but on page 21 it has info about the radio channels http://www.uniden.com/pdf/MHS350om.pdf |
