MLPA: State Senator Dutton is Tired of the BS
A month or so back, State Senator Dutton sent a letter to the DFG Director demanding justification for keeping the MLPA in the state budget. He didn't like the BS response. His return fire is posted below. If you support what he's doing, please call or email his office and thank him.

[OTRant] what's funny is that the CHP do selectively enforce laws, they don't drive around looking for people driving around all distracted, they sit on the side of the road with a radar gun. [/OTRant]

Thx PAL.
I also heard (radio) that the MLPA is now being challenged by by some of the native american tribes along the coast, in particular the Chumash band. If implemented the MLPA would impede their way of life and affect their ability to conduct sacred rituals. One of the spokespersons for the native americans through out the "supreme court challenge" statement....The spokeperson said that it was the first time that many of these disperate bands have ever worked together to fight against an issue. |

WTF? you want us to assign people to prevent other people from fishing areas of the state at the cost of 20 mil a year? and it appears that this whole thing is being driven by large companies with an agenda, and is not at all fair. WTF? that's what i got out of it. |
Thanks for the update Paul. Mr. Dutton does a terrific job of pointing out some, (but certainly not all), of the problems associated with MLPA implementation and the process in general. I will send him a letter today thanking him for his support on this issue and asking how I, (we), can help the effort to get this thing stopped.

I sent an email to Senator Dutton and almost immediately got the following response from someone on his staff. In my email, I asked if there was anything we could do to help the cause. Apparently there is. Please read below.

Letter sent. I fully support Senator Dutton's efforts to shed some light on some of the sleazy corruption in the MLPA process. It's nice to see he's calling people on their BS.
