La Jolla boat launch yellow slick?!
Did anyone else go out today and see the yellow slick that looked what may possibly be eggs? Just wondering what it was never seen it before.
|
I don't know what that crud is, and it is still there.
I just got home empty handed. Plenty of bait this morning. Water is kind of dirty. Maybe next time... Jason |
Water was nasty last night.
I did see this and agree with it 100%. :p http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...202009/4x4.jpg |
It's bull crap..I've driven on there so many times, never came close to getting stuck and I don't use a 4x4...but is what it is...I'll just use my cart...
|
It sucks that guys without 4x4 (that know what they are doing) will not be able to use the actual beach but there are plenty of morons waiting to f' it up for the rest.
I was launching one day last week and a group of 4 guys drove 2 cars onto the entrance sand and exit side sand to unload their yaks. They backed up the entire launch to do their own thing. Two OEX trucks were waiting outside and I was waiting to get out. One got stuck and the other almost got stuck. Not once did it occur to them how selfish or stupid that was. Could you imagine if both had been stuck? No way in or out till someone came to their rescue:rolleyes: <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden"> |
Is it September yet?

Good ol'limited slip on my Chevy is good enough.Anyone with a dogleg should be cautious and considerate.

There are several problems this time of year. 1st crowds, pedestrians, that walk through the boat launch area, not mindful. But, then again, it just looks like part of the beach, and many people are from out of town, so they are clueless that a boat launch exists.
2nd, it was super high tide yesterday, there was little to no room on the beach, especially near the ramp. The sand was all mixed up, deep, and unpacked. 3rd, I used to drive a 2WD truck, I foolishly purchased. I never got stuck, and launched during busy days in the summer. The problem with 2wd trucks (rear wheel drive) you need to pick a line, and get a head of steam, let off gas, so you don't spin your tires. Then come the tourists, so make you stop. You can rock out of trouble, or low air in tires, but I am in agreement with others, on very busy days, esp tourneys, I always used wheels. Eric (undrH2Ohntr) has a zodiak, so his situation is different, don't know if those are wheel-able. In any event, this is my 3rd 4x4, I have owned, my first auto-4x4. I love auto 4x4, no getting out of the truck, locking hubs, just turn a knob on the dash, it could not be any lazier! :D |
I do not have a 4x4. I completely agree with the 4x4 only thing during peak hours now. Yesterday the sand was super thick. The only way a 4x2 truck had a chance was with a running start. Running starts and crowded beaches don't mix well. I unloaded at the curbside zone just fine. When the sand is packed down like usual 4x4 or not makes no difference.

jason, yeah I came home empty handed to even struggled to make bait!? I was asking about it because i was wondering if it may have effected the fishing?

So will i actually be cited if I take my Locked 2wd truck out there? Im smart enough to air down and am locked plus carry everything I need to get myself un-stuck (hi-Lift, boards, on board air, shovel). And f I cant I carry recovery straps....

Make yourself a set of Sand Tracks from a Milk Crate.
-You will never get stuck again. Cheap insurance. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9...D720/ry%3D480/ http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9...D720/ry%3D480/ http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9...D720/ry%3D480/ |

Have you had to use it before? Does it work when you get stuck or do you need to lay it down before hand? |

Cool idea on the sand tracks.
Chris, it would be hard to drag the little inflatable but lucky enough I have 4wd:sifone: <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden"> |
Billy that is pretty slick, I can think of a couple baja trips I could have used something like that, even with 4x4...

Great idea! In baja i used 2x4's, shovels, rocks in the past but this is way better.
