Transducer Mount for Hobie
 

I remember reading that the transducer if mounted too close to the Mirage drive can pick up interference from the swing of the blades. Where do you Hobieists recommend mounting your transducer to avoid this?

OEX always mounts them right behind the Sail Post, No problems. If it was just behind the Mirage system youd probably have problems as it would be reading through the churning water.

That answers my question as I was thinking of mounting it near the hatch opening in the middle of the boat.

I've mounted my last 3 as far back in the boat as I can reach in in the boat, through the seat hatch. I don't notice any interference from the drive, even when I'm hauling a$$. On my first I had it mounted up front, probably too far up front, just in front of the sail post. When I had it up front I did notice interference from the bow splash when I was really moving, as front of the boat was cutting through the swell. It was also a pain the few times I did try to store my rods in the boat, as they got tangled in the wires, but that was probably due to sloppy installation. I suppose there is good logic for CJ's Location, maybe the best of both worlds.:cheers1:

I have mounted a couple of transducers on Hobies, and agree with CJ's location for more than one reason.

The location behind the sail mast/just before the drive well is a stiff area that in not likely to flex much, if at all.

I chose this location because I use slow cure epoxy 2500 psi, the epoxy is very hard when set and could possible pop off if the mounting location was prone to flex. It has worked flawlessly so far, and has been tested in the pounding ocean off La Jolla during that last Crazy Santa Anna that caught me a few miles off shore. Big nasty mess of wind and waves! It took well over an hour of pounding to get back to shore.

The second reason is when you load a big fish)s in your front hatch they will not interfere with you transducer mount. The sail post acts like a roll bar, and protects the transducer.

Rear Hatch Transducer Mount?
 

Anyone ever try mounting under rear hatch? That space is not used for much in my Revolution. I have currently have my transducer mounted near the sail tube and it seems to work fine. Since I store the battery in the back hatch I am thinking that this may be a better place to mount the transducer.

Anyone have thoughts.

I didn't want to drill any additional holes in the yak to run the wires through so I bought and extra screw in shock cord plug, drilled out the small hole to 5/8" so the transducer and power plugs would pass through. Still had a bit of space around the wiring so I installed a 3/8 I.D. rubber grommet as well. A tiny bit of goop to hold the grommet and just screw it in! Someone has probably already done this so I won't take credit for thinking of it but it made sense to me.

Fishfinder mounts to a Ram wedge mount and Ram Hummingbird specific mount.

Thats the way I mounted my FF on the Adventure.

On my Revo I use the Ram mini ball in the sail mast with a Ram Mount, and pass the FF wires through the front hatch (No Holes at all)

Looks clean.

--If you use a Glad Freezer Bag over the top of the FF and secure it with a rubber band you can launch into 4 footers and the FF will not get wet.
