It was almost uncanny^. He was en fuego.
The plans were changed before we even left the dock. There would be no Cortez or Tanner Bank this trip. The wind had come up the prior afternoon and blew all night at over 15kts. Soooo, we stayed at San Clemente Island, poking around, trying to stay out of the wind the best we could. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...IMG_7734sm.jpg China Point groundswell http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...IMG_7736sm.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...IMG_7740sm.jpg Pyramid head http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...IMG_7743sm.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...IMG_7744sm.jpg Got blown out of Pyramid Cove, and sought shelter on the "lee" side. It was better, but SCI is shaped like a wing. It gets it up and down both sides. Cool hanging valley. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...IMG_7746sm.jpg Arch. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...IMG_7752sm.jpg Moon. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...IMG_7762sm.jpg Day one, Friday, was really windy and sloppy. We traversed from China Point to Pyramid Head plus a few miles over around the Southern lee. It was trying, and the fishing was tough due to the wind. Got some bass, bonito, barracuda and sheephead in that order for the day. Only one sheep and one 'cuda. Saturday, the day the weather was supposed to arrive. We started again at China Point, with a little better conditions, wind-wise, but the cloud deck came down quick, and by lunch we had impending mist blowing in our faces. By 2:00 we lost China Point altogether in the rain. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...IMG_7779sm.jpg But the fish kept biting in the rain. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...IMG_7780sm.jpg Cool shot. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...IMG_7785sm.jpg Cool shore. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...IMG_7793sm.jpg Saturday, looking to board the mothership... http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...IMG_7796sm.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...IMG_7798sm.jpg These 2 are nice in their fullsize. On one hand it was a fun adventure in basically worse conditions than I would willfully subject myself to, if I were contemplating a launch. Deja vu. On the other it was $$$, and I caught 1 yellowtail that I felt sorry for and released it. (Called it 8, upon further review it was prob ~6#) Real wide range of yt sizes. Ask yakrider, he almost got the whole range. Say 6-~26#. I got my share of fishing in, and caught lots of fish, but the targets were elusive. I'd roll the dice again. The water was consistently incredible! Deep blue with slight tint variations, but overall real clear, and 65F-70F. I want the Cortez! Z |
Very cool! :you_rock:
Sweet, tails in the counts :cheers1: Josh is an animal. :D He's got it in him. Great pics Z. |
Thats friggen rad Troy. Toad cali and a peta-friendly :yt: release. Congrats on the JP Josh:you_rock:
|
Oh steveooooo, now you did it.
To make everything right in the world, I have to mention the bone on surface iron that went full on squirting arterial bleed all the way across my deck. It turned into bug bait. |

Hooping
Did not hear what the results were for bugs but I would think they probably were good. How many bugs were caught and were there keepers on the Islander trip?
Thanks |
For Bugs, i think that was a zero. At lease i didn't see anyone pull any out of the water.
