Kayak fish of the week Nov 7th-13th 2021
No take-home fish on live bait or vertical jigs last Friday :( I did land a variety of fish on the Sabiki/Crappie jig combo while pursuing bait out of Pompano Bch, Florida.
https://i.postimg.cc/15GMxZzp/Spanis...montagefsm.jpg Top left: an undersized King Mackerel, Right: Prime bait sized Little Tunny, Bottom: a Spanish Mackerel, quickly ID'd by the Jet Black fwd edge of the main dorsal fin. They are notorious for destroying sabiki rigs in the dark when there is an urgency to catch other baits before the sunrises. https://i.postimg.cc/SsG8Tmds/Bar7fsm.jpg This one is a little too big to use as bait, Bar Jacks are one of the most common baitfish available on the wrecks year-round. https://i.postimg.cc/JnRK46ds/1-GX018941ffsm.jpg Rainbow Runners are colorful and good eating. The state record is 23lbs. https://i.postimg.cc/MpCf3NJh/GX018940yjg-Efsm.jpg YellowJacks are perhaps the coolest-looking member of the Jack family in Florida. They are good eating. Other fish taken on the Sabiki included Blue Runners, Cigar Minnows, Sardines and Grunts. I gave the oversized Sabiki catches to a pair of Kayakers that drove 4-1/2hrs down from Jacksonville for a tough day. 12hrs of jigging and trolling por nada. |
My eyes got big when I saw the rainbow runner pic. Nice fish!!
