Long Beach 5/20
3 Attachment(s)
Son and I were suppose to go out Tuesday, but so saw snotty weather conditions and moved it to Wednesday. Launched out of South Shore about 7:00. I decided to drag a small Rapala on the way out and instantly get hit by a smelt. Drop the rapala back in and get small halibut. Now I can let my son know I got the skunk off. Start fishing along the rocks for a few spotties, calicos and sandies. Son gets his skunk off. Noticed no cruise ship docked, so round the corner and start fishing the pylons. 3 straight casts and son has 3 keeper bass. Time for dad to stop talking smack. All larger grade of fish there. Getting windy and head back to rocks by QM. Halibut decided they wanted to play. Got one 22" and one 24" and some shorts. Few more bass and a cabezon. Decide to call it a day and back at ramp at 2:00.
Totals for the day 1 smelt 1 cabezon 8 halibut 15 spotties 9 sandies 2 calicos All fished released. Attachment 26573 Attachment 26574 Attachment 26575 |

Nice session, and all released to grow bigger. Good all around.

That’s a great little area to fish and it’s so close to the launch. You couldn’t have had a better day! Nice catches!

Looks like a great day of fishing. I have been wanting to fish the LB area. How much does it cost to park and launch at the South Shore?
|
$12. Really short paddle to get there too. First time fishing the pylons since there is usually a cruise ship there.

We usually start on the rocks along the Queen Mary and fish docks on the way back in. To get to the pylons, just make a right at the end of the rocks. If there is a cruise ship there, they will chase you away. Most fish were caught on hookup baits, chartreuse and red crab. My son got his bigger bass on 4" swim bait.
