New in Kayak fishing and need some help.
 

Hey everyone, I am new in the sport of Kayak fishing but not in fishing.
Wanted to try something new besides open party boats and what other way
is there than kayak fishing? Being your own captain and fishing where you want without the crowd. I am currently looking at Hobie Revolution or the Hobie Adventure to start with and need some feed back on shorter or longer ride. Any input would be great. Also some suggestions on equipment such as fish finders, rod holders, bait tanks, etc.....

Welcome to the addiction.

I tried the adventure, outback, oasis and the revo.
The outback it the most stable, and the adventure is the least.
Speed wise the adventure is the fastest, with the outback being the
slowest.

I went for the revo. It is more stable than the adventure, and faster than
the outback.

I'd would not get all your gear until you do a few exploratory yak trips
and get a feel for what you want your lay out to be.

I would have to agree with Marco. Get the ride you want and play around with it for a while before you invest in some things you may not need. Get out and see other peoples set ups. I can't speak for everyone but most kayakers are proud of what they have and are willing to talk about and show you what they have for their set ups. This forum is a great place to start.

As far as ride. Test them out. I have the Outback and love it. The stability is great. I was out the other day with the family. My wife had hers with our youngest son (7) and I hade our oldest (8). My oldest wanted to go out on his own so I hoped onto my wifes. The yak held all 3 of us very well (me 230 lbs, wife 130 lbs, son 82 lbs = 442 lbs). We were in the bay so we were okay with this but if we were out at LJ I don't think I would have been too keen on the idea. The Outback may be slow but I am not in a hurry and it is still faster than most others against the current.

Thanks for the welcome and will try out bays before going out.
From seeing all the pictures and reading the fish stories, it looks like more
fun than any party boats or private boats. Thanks again

Welcome Chloe , enjoy the addiction. newbee here also, in Lake Forest.I have been out five or six times to Dana Point .Just stay in the bay for now. Let me know if when you get your gear you want some one to paddle(or peddle) around with.

Hey Mark,

That sounds great. It will be a little while, I have to purchase the yak. Not sure if I should get one plain or one with the works. I see that the on line store has some set up with a fishing package. The Hobie outback and Revolution, checking the prices of package is not bad at all. Stay in touch and will let you know when I get a yak.

If you are only looking at Hobie products, when you are ready to try them out, see Tim at Dana Point Jet Ski and he will help you out.

for fish finders and ANY electronics, i suggest inexpensive stuff to start with.

over time, once u gain more experience, u may then decide its best for you to upgrade to better stuff.
