La Jolla 8-19-19, Pulling on the right kind.
After loosing a couple in the last two months and just getting teased by the boils that did not produce any while throwing lures into the middle. I finally got to play with one as a couple other kayakers did likewise in the same area. Got to see Chris (ctfphoto) who I had not seen on the water in some time and the overcast cleared and wind did not pick up till almost noon to make a beautiful day. It sure is good to feel the hard runs pull and hear clicker, braid and drag scream. During the fight I just decided I would let this one go back to grow bigger and fight another day. Just got his pictures and some video. The only one that lost was the greeny on my circle hook he ate. https://youtu.be/2QQgLmkt4gA

NICE! It has been awhile. Great job letting it grow.

Mark, Nice catch and release. Fun day on the water. I missed that bite by 10 minutes as I went looking for the larger variety.
My artsy custom kayak gaff for large gamefish was not finished yet, so it's all good. Today's DIY project .... |
Yeah Mark!
Nice fish and post. Time on the water. Glad to you rewarded for all your efforts. Cheers brother! |
That is going to be a beast of a kayak gaff. What are you planning, a kayak swordfish?

Have not tried it out yet as I just finished it. |
Nice wrap job. That actually looks a lot more reasonable in size without the foreshortening on the first photo. Maybe it's just my eyes, but it looked like about a 6/0 gaff hook :o

That looks really good Chris. Now it just needs to be properly christened, with some large yellowtail blood! Tight Lines, see you out there this coming week.

The only thing I would add is epoxy on the tuna cord. Other than that looks bitchin. |
