Need a New Fish Finder
So my finder finally took a crap after 5 years of abuse. What would you replace it with? Not sure what everyone is using these days, Lowrance, Hummingbird or Raymarine. What are your thoughts? Would like a combo unit if the funds permit. Thanks in advance.

What I have
I have an echomap 44dv and I am very happy with it. Currently on sale at
West Marine for $249, but occasionally goes on sale at $199, which is what I picked it up for at West. I guess they had the 44dv chirp at half price recently, which would have made it even cheaper than the older echomap. http://www.westmarine.com/buy/garmin...FZSIfgodvFUFBg |
Have a hook 5 I'm selling.

Cabelas has the HDS 9 touch with DI transducer on sale again for $999. Best deal out there

I would go with a lowrance 5 or 7" with the new total scan transducer.

I can tell you, as a guy who's using a now discontinued Lowrance Mark-4 HDI, that you should get something with a color display. A 5" screen would be preferable and in my opinion a GPS is a must.

I would recommend a Lowrance Elite TI 5 or Elite TI 7 with the Total Scan transducer. I you want to save $100 than get the version with the Down Scan transducer it's a 83/200-455-800Hz. Awesome capabilities and touch screen is great.

I have the Elite TI 5 and it's awesome , but now I wish I had bought the 7 for these old eyes. Bigger is better, except when it comes to women......Ha Ha Ha!

Thanks for the info, think I will save up a little extra and get the 5 Ti.

I would recommend that you get whatever you can afford

I'm having trouble getting my head around touch screen technology anywhere but inside a pilot house. I have enough problem keeping splashing water and fish slime off my screen without having to touch it with my bloody hands. Maybe I'm just to anal about keeping my screen clean.

I went with the Garmin SV 7, it doesn't have a touch screen but it has simple controls to get around. What I don't like is the connections on the back of the unit, they don't go in easy and if they aren't in good you don't get signals. I know the plugs need to be tight in this environment but these are ridiculous
