Put a sheet of dense foam on the inside top of the cover.

My first line of defense against the water is a bilge pump, the hand pump is the second.

Have you taken all the items your bringing on the kayak and weighing them? That could cause some of your issue.. Not sure what's it rated for but could be causing it to dip with the swells..

Seems like the bigger the kayak the more things your bringing along..

Also.. Why are you wearing a vest around your neck at the end..

social seating not a good idea in the ocean unless the person weight under 120lbs, going to keep the second person in the middle, so the bow doesn't crush the swells

A Folgers 3lb. plastic container will move out more water with less effort. I also have never seen one of these go bad.
