Central Coast Conditions?
Hey All,
Any of you guys pretty familiar with the central coast? I'm headed up to San Simeon to do some camping with my wife and kids next week. I was checking out the conditions forecast and found this: http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/j...psajbzu4rb.png I'm going to be there Wednesday-Friday of next week. I was planning on going out on San Simeon Cove/Hearst State Beach & Leffingwell, but now I'm not sure I'll be able to go out at all. The cove at San Simeon is south-facing and looks sheltered; Is that cove sheltered enough to be an option? Is Magic Seaweed misleading me AGAIN?! Can I count on the wind and swell being calm in the mornings like we get down here? I've been watching the forecast in Cambria for the last few weeks and it seems like it's always rippin'. Best regards, Dave |
Looks like I'm still too far out for an accurate forecast, but if I am reading this swell report correctly the cove @ Hearst State Beach should be sheltered to some degree.

I went under the same conditions memorial weekend and the forecasts were wrong with respects to the swells. Bring your gear and be prepared to fish. If conditions get bad the fishing grounds are within 15 minutes from the launch.

Leffingwell should be ok. I would also check out Montana de oro. Fished there twice and it's somewhat protected as well. Surf can get up though as usual up there.

Left is my go to when fishing that area. Go early so you can get time in prior to the wind.

I use this one too
http://www.surf-forecast.com/breaks/...latest/six_day A little too far out to get an accurate report. Wind will be the biggest issue |
I fished Leffingwells last weekend sat and sun
its a protected cove you can launch there even when the swell is 10'+ but with that the seas are hard to fish anyways 4-5 is fine 5-6 is a bit bouncy any more and I would pass bottom of low and top of high tides can get a bit surgey at times fog and afternoon wind is more of an issue fog can be thick and wind is mostly guaranteed early afternoon water temps are cold I bought a farmer john wet suit for there specifically made by NRS and works great fishing was slow sat and decent sun wind stayed mellow both days Leffingwell is at leffingwell creek just at the north end of moonstone beach cambria and south of san simeon and slow means I still managed 5 keepers including a toad red good luck my fav place to fish prob P |
how is Morro Bay when the waters outside are too rough? Seems that this time of year the halibut should be biting pretty good up there.

Thanks guys! Especially for the recent reports. The forecast is looking a little more favorable. I picked these 9" MC Viejos today in hopes of enticing some big lings:

Cory makes some good stuff
xmas tree works very well too got a nice ling on one of those big white halibut grubs with the glow lead head too made a mack by accident, sent it back down and nabbed a keeper ling the lings are pretty aggressive when on the bite keep your drag tight let the rod do the work don't give em an inch |
I'll be in the area this week
Hey Dave Legacy,
I'll be doing work-related training during the mornings/early afternoon in SLO all week long and I'm hoping to fish the afternoons/evenings Mon/Tue and Fri if weather allows. I'm PM'ing you |
