Bait Tank Intake

What's up guys, so I am rigging my first Hobie, an Outfitter Tandem. As you guys know, the rear cargo deck is pretty small with no scrupper holes, but I'm able to fit a 12x12 inch crate and 5 gallon bucket for a bait tank.

My question is about the pump intake. Is an over the side submersed pump my only option? Does it really add that much drag? I was thinking maybe running a tube from the scrupper hole close to the rear seat with a check valve.

Attached are pics of the crate and bucket after rigging it with rod holders etc.

Thanks

Over the side only option IMO, also see how low you will be sitting in the water with 30 pounds of water in there. I'd be nervous setting that livewell right on top of the rear hatch

Thanks, will probably have the water level adjustable with different drain holes. The outfitter does sit low already to begin with.

I fished an outfitter but mainly solo with a bait tank up front.. when I put the tank in the back it was a much wetter ride . Since I mainly fished solo I've upgraded to a PA and never looked back.

Yea i guess I will go with the over the side pump so I can have the tank up front if I solo fish.
