Hammerheads

What are the regulations on hammerhead. I can't find anything in dfg book. I heard they taste good and are willing to bite

Dont take more than 10 or over 10ft on the yak.

Other than that your good.

Zed wrong again!

You can keep 5 under 10' and 5 over 10' with a total bag limit of 10 inches.

Zed 08-07-2015 09:31 AM

Damn. I knew 10 was in there.

Pretty sure it's a no take like the GWS, but I've been wrong more than right.

Can anyone share any good hammerhead recipes?

Zed 08-07-2015 11:34 AM

Grill it like a steak.

Since the published bag limit is 2 per day no size limit on makos, threshers, and blues (yuck) I would stick to that and feel alright about it. Posting a couple of dead hammers is another matter. Good luck. Remember sharp end away from you.

I'm going in am to try for one. They are out there and may not be again for a long time.

They taste like piss and are terrible.

The good eating sharks are mako and thresher. I hooked into about a 11 ft hammerhead today I had a lot of fun with the sleigh ride but then decided to break him off as I didn't want to deal with it close to the kayak.

Thanks for posting that link. It was always my understanding that they aren't edible so I've never targeted them before. It's good to see the information from another source.

It's all about how it's cleaned and prepared. There are a few sharks that urinate through their skin and if not prepared correctly, you will know at the dinner table.
