LJ Wed.
Red crabs everywhere, all over the beach.
No big fish. So this guy pulls up to the gas station on his way home from kayak fishing and some lady asks, "You going to Colorado?" To which the man replies, "No, Why?" The Woman, in her crackly out of state voice says..... "WELL WHERE ELSE DO YOU PADDLE A CANOE?" |
That's pretty funny!

Do red crabs slow the bite? Because yellows have plenty of food to eat?

I think that's the general consensus. They're bellies were full of em earlier in the year on and off when the crabs were in big numbers. They are blanket thick all up the coast right now. Buddy in Newport sent a video of the beach up there covered in 'em. They were scattered here and there on the beach at LJ at low tide, thick near the kelp and every now and again out in deeper water. I talked to a couple fellow plastic peddlers, today who were using em to rock fish structure.

Maybe a red crab color iron would/ could help? I bought one a few months ago... I did catch some rockfish on it but maybe it would get them yellows to bite :) Attachment 15845

Yea just dropping down w a little squid and would reel up a crank and jig up and down a little. Didn't really take much effort at all...couple times I just let it sit then reel when I felt a little tug. Seemed to work either way.
