The garage is getting crowded...

Don't know if it's a midlife crisis or a bucket list scratch off. 1977 Yamaha XT500. Kept in a guy's garage unused for 25 years. I finally got my Thumper, the bike my parents wouldn't let me have in high school.
I need a referral for a solid San Diego mechanic (esp on this series) please. Jim |
Way cool....I remember them well my dad had one.

when I was 14 my very first bike was a 73 DT 250, that looks fun :D

Awesome Jim!
This is your guy…knows his stuff, super affordable, and his name is Jim. :) http://martinsmotos.com He's in Santee, off Prospect between N. Magnolia and Cuyamaca. The dude is top notch. As for me, I too bought a new bike. Heading to Alaska this summer. 2015 BMW R1200 GS Adventure. Got the full luggage boxes too, they're just not on in the photos. |
Thanks Robbie! I'll take it to this dude.
But ummm regarding your bike...where do the rods go? Jim |
Fun bike. I bought new a 1980 Yamaha XT 500 had it for 4 1/2 years and had a ton of fun with it. Lots of torque, pulled wheelies without having to try too hard. The guy I sold it to was a lot younger and a better dirt rider than me. He used to hold a wheelie for several blocks down the main drag in Poway. Change that muffler and put a Super Trap on it, sounds great and gives it more power. Certainly wish I still had it. Good luck with yours.

Anytime amigo. Jim is awesome. Not many people get to touch my KTM.
Congrats again on your new steed. On my bike, rods will be 2-piece set-ups, and they'll live in a pipe tube, capped on both ends, stuffed with foam, and the reels will be taken off when in transport. I'll just strap it down on top of the luggage across the back. I figure that the majority of what I'll be fishing for will be lake/stream trout, so no need for the heavy-duty arsenal. There is however a reel monster of a collapsable rod (30#-60#) on Charkbait right now. Breaks down into 4 pieces. A real slick set-up. |
Nice ride, Jim! Do it yourself! It'll be fun. Pretty basic bike at that. And when it is in 100 pieces in a box and you are over it give me a call and I'll take it off your hands.
Here is a sick kit for some inspiration - http://deuscustoms.com/bikes/deus-400-sr-kit-2/ |
Nice vintage ride! I still have my 1978 YZ400E sitting in the garage, what a blast it was. Needs some work, maybe someday...

Let's go
