1st trip out here in Cali! video.

I finally just said the heck with chores and headed out to El Capitan for some striper and large mouth action. About 2 minutes into the trip Igot firehosed by some old dude on a jet ski. It was getting warm so what ever I was on the water and chilling. After that the fish were breaking the surface all over chasing bait and I saw 3 nice bass but spooked them as the wind blew me right over them. That's a pretty lake and full of fish, I just need to figure them out. I did manage 1 bass. A true beast that's on its way to the igfa record books!

That wasnt very nice....

Looked like a beautiful day out there! Congrats on the "monster!"

If you close your eyes and listen to the audio only, it sounds like bad horror movie sound effects. The jet ski is the chainsaw.

Phil Jackson, Zen Master, approves of your response to the jetskier.

This attitude is prevalent everywhere. I hate that stuff.

Pocoloco 10-09-2014 08:31 AM

sorry no stripers in cap

onebaddj 10-09-2014 12:23 PM

He'sjust another turd in the punch bowl of life and probably ripped his moms but on the way out. Besides kicking some old dude a$$ probably would have got me in more trouble than it would be worth.

Man, that just sucks. I don't know if ass holes ride PWC or if riding one turns you in to an ass hole, but if a guy is on a PWC chances are he's an ass hole. Thanks for posting the video. Mike

Where is a good place to kayak fish for stripers, that might be somewhat close to OC? Can't go to DVL, since they don't allow sit on top kayaks.

Correct. No Stripers in El Cap.

Pyramid Lake and Lake Silverwood are supposed to have Stripers and look to be about 2.5 hr drive North from San Diego. Lake Cahuilla is North of the Salton Sea and about the same 2.5 drive, but in the heat will kill you before you catch a fish.

Here's a link I found with a snip of info pasted below.

Good fishing....... ;-)

Striper Fishing Lakes In California
The Colorado River lakes along the California-Arizona border are populated with striped bass. Before dams were built the river was a major spawning ground and many monster stripers have come from these waters.
In Central CA, Millerton Lake is the primary option for striper fishing. Southern CA has several options including Lake Cahuilla, Pyramid Lake and Lake Silverwood.

Thanks for the info! Looks like Silverwood is the closest to where I live (Brea).

Now that school is back in session :luxhello:, Castaic lake also has "Jailbirds" [Mr. Stripee out there can range from "schoolie size" (2-5#'ers) up to 20lb+]. They can be finicky @ times (weekends) and can have a serious case of "Lockjaw", but Andy had a couple trips out there recently and scored at least one on each trip (which is much better than my avg. and I've been fishing there since I move to Santa Clarita over 35+ years ago!).

Its a bit strange that website says before the damns were built on the Colorado River it was a spawning area for stripers. Striped bass aren't native to the west coast or the Colorado river and weren't stocked in to the river until after all the main dams were built.

Any impoundment that gets its water from the Colorado River or the Delta will have stripers in it. They get pumped in at small size or even as larvae. Local lakes that get local water don't have stripers. I've never fished the delta but I can say there are plenty of stripers all over the Colorado river. I think the closest lake to SD that has stripers is Lake Skinner east of Tamecula. Mike
