Hobie Wheels
Wife has an old Hobie Outback Mirage Hank Parker. She has the old plastic wheels that she wants to install while kayak is on the Rack and Roll trailer. Wheel posts are a loose fit in the scupper holes and wheels fall out. Is there a kit available to pin the wheel posts above the scupper hole to hold wheels in place? I could drill a hole through the post and add a cotter pin but thought there might be a cleaner fix. bosco

My set of hobie wheels have a plastic cap on one post connected to bungie and a hole already drilled. Do yours not?

Newer wheels had a retaining pin.

Hobie Wheels
These wheels do not have plastic caps or retaining pins. Tops of posts are square cut and open. bosco

DiY a retaining pin; as long as the post are long enough it should be easy.

DIY interchangeable/adjustable Hobie wheels
2 Attachment(s)
I just finish the mods and upgrade on my DIY PA14 cart. It's super stable and capable of handling 200lbs capacity. It's still adjustable for different size scupper holes and can swap to beach wheels if needed; with a 30" wheel base.
Next mod is to add those pins to hold it in place when it's plug into the scupper holes. Also some rubber pipe tubing on the support to prevent bottom surface scratch. |
maybe you need something like this

Did you get the crossbars for the cart like you were supposed to?
How was the cart not cutting it? Ive been using it for the past 3-4 years and it works great. |
I've used the large wheelies on an outback and a PA, the crossbars were a must on both kayaks. If you don't have the crossbars make some, you'll thank us later.

Any link to these crossbars thanks

Take a picture of the setup. Didn't know you needed a cross bar.
