Newport rockfishing - this Sunday?

After months of sitting and waiting...I finally got clearance from my orthopedist to do some light activities like biking or in this case, pedaling my Hobie! :luxhello:

I'm thinking of making a run to Newport to check out the piles.

Anybody interested in joining me? I don't have piles marked but I have a pretty good idea on where to look.

Newbies are welcome! I just need to get out on the water in the worse way!

Hitting county line saturday morning, but if I am up to it I might see you out there at NP Sunday.

May want to double think CL. Due to last storm the sand, erosion has exposed so many rocks and boulders along the beach. This is at high tide and can't even imagine what's exposed at low tide.

Some buddies went out last Friday, but they didn't mention anything about exposed rocks.

Thanks for the heads up, will have to inquire a bit more with my buddies, might have to launch a little further south and make the long peddle. Conditions for Saturday look to nice to pass up.

I'm thinking of going Sunday. Newport is the closest for me, and I'm still a newbie kayak fishing there. Just surf fished a lot over there. I'd really like to learn the structure over there. I'll bring extra squid, I have a full box from Hmart in the freezer. I'll be on a sand camo malibu x factor. :cheers1:

I was out there last Friday. Launched around 6-ish. Low tide and lots of rock. There were gaps on the beach where the rocks werent all piled up so launching didnt scratch the yak up much. I'm sure its changed since then but just thought I'd share.

Just realized i have my son's first basketball game that afternoon so I'm going to want to launch EARLY and try to be off the water no later than 11AM.

I'm definitely down with meeting some BWEdgers (newbies and veterans alike) but will have to cut out early.

I've launched by the public pier inside the harbor closest to the harbor mouth. But I'm a newbie too, and I'm willing to bet the veterans here know of a better launch spot inside the harbor. Don't even think about surf launching any where near balboa pier, you'll kill yourself. Just surf fishing near there in the past let myself know not to even try that once I got my kayak. I just find parking on the streets closest to any spot inside the harbor.

Coast guard station across the harbor is where most of us launch from in newport. Plenty of parking, bathrooms, shower and hose to wash of your kayak!
