Baja or Bust - After Tony left!
Sunday night and all day Monday sustained winds around 40 MPH, waited it out on shore. Rewarded after that with a period of flat calm glassy conditions that lasted all day Tuesday and still holding when I left on Wednesday.
Fishing reports coming in from the others when they get back, my favorite catch was a 28" Sierra, an hyperactive fast fish caught 100 yards off the beach. Also caught Spotted Bass, Trigger fish, Azure Parrot fish, Pacific Bone fish, Barracuda, Mexican Hog fish, Burrito Grunt, Lizard fish, Puffer fish, and two types of fish yet to be identified. No pictures from me, so I'll not give any other sizes or weights. Opinion on Gonzaga Bay, " I'm going back"! (with a camera next time I hope). |
Glad you made it back safe! It was a good time out there...What ever happened to mikey? did he make it back? We hit the road at about 8am and I stepped out of my truck onto my driveway at 7pm that night.
He went out and fished sunday morning, hope he made it back safe.... |
Had to Google what a Sierra looked-like. That is a seriously big tail on a skinny fish, like a V8 in a Miata - must have been a fun fight. :you_rock:

How long is the drive to Gonzaga Bay?

Mikey made it back safe but exhausted, fought the wind and tide. It's good to be young and strong.
A sierra is a high power fight, a total blast. Just when you think you have the fight under control it makes a 100 foot reel stripper run, then a 90 degree turn so that your line goes slack and the rod gets yanked right or left as the slack disappears. All you can do is pull and keep reeling. They don't quit the fight all the way to the yak. :reel: |
It took me about eight and a half hours, following the speed limits and stopping every hour or two limber up the legs.

Nice to be young and strong...but piss'n into the wind...that's not right!
