Belmont 3/20
Launched at 630, paddled down to the pier to snake a couple muscles to bait the sabiki. Got hammered by mackerel, caught about 40+. Kept some to stock the freezer for catfish and pier fishing. Fly lined some of the little guys in hopes of a good hali. No such luck. Rigged up the dropshot with gulp 4" nuclear chicken jerk shad. Couple hits followed by a hard strike that grabbed and ran for a solid 5 seconds and spit the bait. I'm assuming it was a decent hali but it cut and run. Better luck next time but at least I've got a freezer full of bait. Oh and a 14" lizard fish...http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/21/e5ute5y8.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/21/a6u2e8ez.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/21/pehyme4u.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/21/du7edy6a.jpg

Nice report. Good to see bigger baits still around with all the worry that's out there these days.

I should be getting my kayak by next weekend. I've fished Belmont pier and that Harbor from boat. Let me know if you want to meetup sometime to fish over there. I have weekends off. Cheers

Sounds good. I work weekends usually but it varies from mornings to evenings depending our bookings. I'm sure we can work out a morning soon. What kinda yak you getting? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Way to get out there :cheers1:. Concerning the bait, I've heard the Sardine are at the end of their cycle. It wasn't too long ago all we had around for bait was Mac's and Chovies. Sounds like that cycle is back. I can tell you, Newport is absolutely LOADED with huge schools of greenbacks, everywhere. Match the hatch :D

I'm getting a Malibu X Factor 2013 model! Can't wait!
