battery storage

i read that it is best to discharge battery if you are gonna store it . is this accurate ? and what would be a safe way of doing so ?

To get the longest battery life, it is recomended to store them fully charged.

i dont know for sure, but have heard/read similar in the past.

i've read in a few places while shopping for batteries in past, than ANYTIME a "sealed rechargeable battery" is allowed to get very low in charge, it starts reducing lifetime & rechargeability of the battery for future.

Yep fully charged is the way to go, and the best way is to leave them on a trickle charger if you can.

My battery is permanently stored in the truck behind the seat connected to a trickle charger. It will always be there when I need it, fully charged...

Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) batteries are supposed to be stored fully charged. Which I'm guessing is what most people are using on their yaks.

I second this, to get the most life out of your battery, you need to store if fully charged on a trickle charger.

Each time a standard lead acid battery is allowed to run completely dead, you can expect to lose 20% of it's recharging capacity. That is why a battery that has run dead several times will not hold a charge for as long as new. Deep cycle batteries, although more expensive, are designed to regain as close to 100% when run dead. Of coarse you lose some capacity each time, just not as much. Something I learned from a battery guy. Makes perfect sense to me to keep it charged with a trickle when not actually being used.

Depending on the battery.
If it holds a memory its best to discharge them all the way.
If it lead battery like a car battery it doesn't hold a memory which we tend to use in our bait well or ff.
