Pro Angler 12 Paddle hitting side rails?

When trying to paddle on the pro angler 12 I constantly knock the paddle against the side rails; many times hitting the rudder control. Is it just my paddling technique or is it just design flaw? I’d love to be able to paddle and peddle at the same time to pickup so additional speed. I’ve tried adjusting the seat a bit more but nothing seems to help.

I'll trade you my old steath 14 for it and you will no longer have that problem.

The PAs are not really designed to paddle unless necessary. Paddling and pedaling is great for short sprints, I do this to get out of the surf zone launching.

This is almost a must in large surf with the Hobies. The paddle will allow you to control the direction of the kayak while you're sitting waiting for the lull and the peddles will allow get that quick burst once you're ready to cut through the surf.

yea thats sort of what I figured.. I wonder if a paddle with curved handle/shaft would help any.

Try a longer paddle or exaggerate your technique. :kayak-surfer::paddleersmilie::paddleersmilie::paddleersm ilie:

Try using the single blade with the T-handel (outrigger canoe style) and you wont have that problem at all anymore.

i too have run into the issue.. I solved the issue by leaning forward as I paddle.. This has solved my issue.

:hmmmm2: When I have paddle my rudder is up, so hitting the stearing handle really isnt that big a deal.

I have not had that problem ...yes use a longer paddle and sit up straight w/ hands up higher...my seat is raised up by using 2 X 2 maple boards under the chair which also probably helps some also - I only use it in the surf zone,,,peddle for speed...

I have a pa14 and have to exaggerate the paddle stroke but you get used to it. One thing using the paddle and peddle excels at is more responsive then with the rudder. I use this when next to kelp and drop shot in the clear space.
