Hobie Livewell / bait tank parts?
 

Suppose someone wanted to replace that crappy push / pull O.E. switch with another crappy Hobie push / pull switch. Where would I order it? I don't think Andy has them?

Go straight to the battery, you will not regret it.

I got tired of changing my switch so I bypassed it and went straight from the pump to the battery. At first I thought it was going to be a big hassle reaching back and plugging it in but now I can do it with my eyes closed while holding a rod in one hand during a surf launch while preparing a breakfast burrito.

Don't get me wrong, the switch is a plus but why not eliminate the problem?

Just a thought. While looking at the one you posted, It occurred to me that it looks like something you would find in an automotive shop used in pimping out your ride. Might find something in there that would work. Not sure how it would hold up in salt water though.

Yeah, I've been reading everyones various issues and attempted fixes for the switch....none seem to be full proof. Hobie obviously has a design flaw in this.
I guess I just figured I'd get a new O.E. switch, do all I can to salt proof it and replace it once a season if need be....seemed like the lesser of all evils.
The switch bypass sounds like the most long term hassle free way to go though. What kind of plug are you using? Something simpler than the O.E. Hobie plug I'm guessing...I can hardly get it unplugged on my workbench...I don't how I'd do it on my yak.

I'm using the stock plugs and I can plug both ends with one hand.

Red and white automotive two wire. Found for a 1.99 at auto zone.

Has anyone tried to relocate the switch to a location that may make it easier to shield it from the elements?

Mine died about a month ago as well.
Did a quick fix job in the garage which lasted about a month.
I'll be heading to the store to buy another switch today.
They're $12, and 2 minutes to swap out. If I have to do that every year, or even every 6 months, I'm OK with that.
To have it wired directly and using the battery terminals as the on/off is doable, but having a switch for $12 is the best option for me.
I believe that the newest version from Hobie does have that red plastic cover so that will provide a bit of a better guard compared to the one I'm removing which has nothing but the bare wires pretty much exposed.
Design flaw? Not sure, but I don't think an on/off switch should be a consumable item on a live well.

I don't think people mind replacing a 12 dollar switch every few months.

What they do mind is having a switch failure while you are on the water with a tank full of sardines going belly up.

I have the replacement switches.

I've been through 5 switches on my tank in 4 months, same problem over and over. Granted I fish 3-4 days a week minimum so it see's a lot of abuse.

Corrosion and snapping at the wire to the switch connection. It's been under warranty and the shop kept assuring me it they would fix it.

Finally, I just asked for the switch and I would take care of it myself. I covered the switch where the wires connect with so much marine goop and I haven't had an issue as of yet.

Do you have the red one with the sleeve / jacket over it?

no, I have the ones like Drake posted.

Can you get them?...I'm thinking I might have a better chance with them being completely sealed. I found them at a place in Florida.

I'll definitely try this if I can't find the sealed red switch here locally.

Just avoid the headache, pick it up through Andy and goop it. I've put this one through many many trips and not a lick of corrosion
