all feathered up

ever have one of those days where your the ONLY kayak on the water and the birds seem to know this?

surprisingly the seals didn't pay much attention. which was good.

I was out for blood today, shark was on the menu. they must have had low stock since it seems somebody filled their plate before i arrived.

made it out to 300ft of water and set a drift. i chummed and chummed and chummed some more. I was expecting a lot more activity than i had received, however I did hook into a Mako of about 5ft. he made quick work of my 100lb mono leader with 8/0 circle hook (ill add pic later). had a solid tail slap, followed by 2 more and a run near some kelp in 80ft of water. only had the mac and missed the hook in its nose, so I'm assuming it was a little guy. Drifted by some buoys in 130ft and picked up a small 7gill. i didn't know they pupped down this way. it looked to be about 3ft give or take a few inches. got it up to the yak and while i was deciding where on the deck he would go to be unhooked and photographed he split the 40lb mono leader i was running and slowly sank back down.

took some vid early in the day. fed a scuba chicken some lizard fish and a mac to get him to leave my baits alone. we both left happy.

wind picked up around noon and the white caps followed... along with the sport fleet.

and a pterodactyl followed me to the launch.

Bird

Love the name, "Scuba Chicken".
Fast bird with that vapor trail.

You are just encouraging and reinforcing their bad behavior.

These days, I'd rather lug home dead bait (chum it up, freeze it) and bring it back another day.

Hell, I'd even throw the bait in the trash before I fed a seal, seagull, pelican, or super-chicken.

Low,

Keep on training those LJ birds. I heard that they are so smart that they will actually act as fishing scouts for you to express their gratitude.

Don't forget to bring some goodies for the dogs too.:D

Seriously, you are just making your problem worse.

Tight lines.:cheers1:

well its not like it was going anywhere. trust me, i tried. i beat the water with the bottle attached to my gaff, pretty sure i hit it with the bottle once or twice. threw ice at it, tried to out run it.. for nothing. so figured I'd get it nice and full and it wouldn't eat my bait on the way down.

besides. its not my problem anymore. I'm going to Florida. :D

Youll get the big one next time. Howd your new rod holder work out? Looks pretty nice.

Drake made a good video of how to do it. its the easiest way and pretty effortless, even with battery, rods and all my tackle already on board. just unload, hook up the bait tank and FF and I'm off. He told me people were awe struck at how fast he got on the water and he's right, as long as there's good parking it takes me 15-20 mins from the time i drive on the beach to peddling past the surf.
