La Jolla 10-15 mixed bag

Went out looking for the right kind. They were the absent kind today.

Decided not to go home empty handed so we went far far far out, and worked some random lobster bouys, one after the other like kelp paddies just hoping to find the loaded one.

Got on some pretty good Rock fishing. Ended up with a wide variety of fish today.
Male Goat
Female Goat
White Fish
Red Rocks
Salmon grouper (all released safely)
Baby Soupfin's ( I think?)
Thresher Sharks (Involuntarily released, video coming soon)
Tons of sculpin

Pretty much every bottom fish except the ding-a-Ling
All in all it was a great day. Wind and swells picked up making things nasty around 2, but it was glass and no wind by 3:30

Right on dude! That rock spot we were fishing the other day coughed up some goats as well. I love mixed bags. Enjoy the fish!

Gents,
Perhaps my most awesome day on the water. Thanks for the fun.
I broke off from the crew about 1245. Had an interview at 2.
When Drake says far x 3, no kidding. I was late for my interview.
At least it was for a position as a tackle guy! :) Instant forgiveness.
My back...still a pretzel from Mr. T, but well worth it.
Glad to see that the # spots produced as well.
The gesture from the squid boats was just dynamite. Too cool for sure.
More good times ahead amigos!!!

Excellent job Drake and Wade!!!

skrilla 11-16-2012 11:12 AM

Nice haul. I've had better luck dropping on the rasta colored bouys myself.

please. fill us in on what a "sand shark" is.

if the second dorsal was considerably smaller than the first and they had teeth, then you had some soupies, if the dorsal fins almost matched and you could practically lip them. then you had smooth hounds. most likely grey smooth hounds. the browns will be a distinct brown color and pin back sharks (not the horn sharks which are spotted) have a spine behind the dorsal. watch out for those little boogers.

way to go man! nice variety and some tasty dinner to come.

I dunno...

But....

Let Me Google That For You! :biggrinjester:

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=sand+shark

Or I can try in my own words, from my own research:
Sand shark is the shark you catch on the sand. :p
Right when you pass the rocks, when you know you drifted over your rockfish spot.
Not sure about dorsal fins.
I don't know if it's called sand shark because it's got sand color,
or you catch it on the sand. :D

Sorry for the thread jack!
