timely report

went to leo yesterday. thought i would take it easy and just surf fish. only spent a few hours because i left late. i got more action from shore than when i went on kayak , a few weeks back. 3 rock fish and one scorpion. i forgot my pliers and my license back at home , keep that on the low, low . all fish released , most with at least one more hole . one with hook in mouth . the scorpion. it was not worth wrestling a designer hook out of his mouth , for the pain endured , although i was contemplating on it . . ocean was like a lake at times , 2 -3 " when it kicked up . weather epic. 70 + degree in fall ? does not get much better . was thinking of bringing out the yak , this morning and hitting it up , but here i am behind this screen. some locals may not like what i am gonna post, but since i am not in s.d. , and nobody knows me in the bu , here it is . i did see a fleet of commercial boats , that was not there yesterday . may not mean squat .

Is it a crime to report a fleet of boats?

Thanks for the timely report. I'm sure a fleet of boats means something to someone in SD, nothing to me here in the OC.

sport boats? squid boats? lobster boats? could be anything.

nice variety.

TJones 11-07-2012 08:50 AM

did not want to say this

but here it it .:D . boats were obviously stationed at the line for months. but what surprised me was that that , a fleet of them moved in down south leo .

crazyfishnfool 11-07-2012 09:03 AM

TJones 11-07-2012 09:03 AM

I woke up o-dark thirty for work this morning and there were about 40-50 commercial boats outside of south OC ... market size calamari I'd assume

Just like Andy said, lights all along the coast for some time now and when I say 'some time' I mean as far back as the Oct 1st.

Thanks for the report. Can anyone explain these squid boats?

No way!

If there are many squid boats it follows that there is a large mass of squid out there.

Squid being the incredible eaters they are usually deplete the local area of all marine life.

The squid usually mean a few months of very depressed big game opportunities in the area.

I would just avoid the area completely.

:D

Seriously,

Most people will often associate squid boats with a large number of squid which often get seen as a fish magnet/fish candy.

Fishing with or around these areas has been productive for many chasing Wsb, YT and Halis.

A few people will try to keep the presence of dozens of 60 foot vessels lit up like a Xmas tree a secret.

Tight lines.
