big bugs
buddy and I hit up the bridge in SD bay. didn't have fish to use as bait so we got chicken liver and panty hose. filled up the foot part and tied it off and stuffed it in the cage. took three pulls and we had our limits. all in the 3-5lb range. only 2 or 3 shorts for me and a couple empty nets but the ones that did have bugs were legit.
no pics. He showed me how to tail them and when it was all said and done I had forgotten to take a pic. but we all know what they look like. :D |

Hoop Netting for Lobsters with Pantyhose
Q: While hoop netting lobsters in the past, I have used a piece of old pantyhose to keep the bait together. It’s worked well, but recently I was told it’s illegal to do because a lobster may get entangled on the hose. This has never happened in the times that I have hoop netted. I’m trying to be legal at all times. Am I breaking the law by using this method? (Doug F.) A: Hoop nets are legal to use to take lobster, but traps are not. If hoop nets are modified in any manner that causes the lobster to become entangled or trapped, then the device ceases to be a hoop net and becomes a trap. The fabric used to make pantyhose is known to be an effective trap for lobsters and is not recommended for use on any part of a hoop net when it’s used to take lobster. Hoop nets may contain a bait container, but may in no way act to entangle or impede the movement of lobster while it tries to leave the net. If it does, then the device would be illegal, no matter what material is used to construct the bait container. This is from that carrie wilson lady from the DFG....just say'n! Make sure when dfg shows up...put'em on.....quickly...! |
ah yi yi, so many laws... ill switch to old dew rags.
|
panty hose is not used to trap a lobster. panty hose = elastic bait cage. if using a panty-hose to hold your bait is illegal... then so is using a bait cage. or zip tying your bait down.
anyways. nice going! i did 3 pulls on a set of 6 nets. total of 1 bug (barely legal). i dont know what i'm doing wrong, but you must be doing it right. |

Went out to the secret spot last night. Got 7 lobsters in one hoop all in the 5-6 pound range. Actually I made one of the twin sister supermodels that was with me pull the nets. I wanted to save my energy for a later "feast";):D
