My Hobie mirage drive jammed.

My Hobie mirage drive (v2) jammed today again on LJ.
Last time it jammed, I thought I didn't insert it well.
Today I found out it is not how I insert it, the "set screw" was way too loose .

When the mirage drive jammed, you can still peddle it , but you can not lift it out ( to clear the kelp, landing etc...) .

Simple fix , and don't let it happened to you .

See below : the metal rod extended out and locked under the hull :

After hammered in the metal rod , set screw ( center of this picture) need to be tight :

I've had the same problem of having a loose set screw at the sprocket rod as well as the (older) rods that extend into the fins. This was solved by placing some "locktight" on the threads= no more loose screws!

There is a flat side on the center of the shaft drive. Is the set screw sitting tight on the flat part of the shaft? make sure it is... here is a video notice the flat part in the center of the shaft.

Had the same thing happen to my drives, couldn't figure out what the issue was until I finally spent time doing a little investigating. Reset the metal rod, tightened the set screw, haven't had any issues since.

Great info video.
Hope these little smart "modification" can be built in future Hobie product.
Not everyone have a Dremel tool in home....

Thanks :cheers1:
