Obnoxious noise from mirage drive.
I've got an annoying clicking noise coming from my mirage drive. A noise I didn't have on my last two drives, and every other drive I've picked up doesn't have. My drive is less than two months old.
After lots of playing around with it, I finally found the culprit. The the pin that secures it in the adjustment lever isn't snug. Theres a pretty decent amount of play in the shaft. (insert bus kid and jords joke here) So whenever I alternate from peddling back to front and front to back, theres a click. Combine that with it going on both peddles and its a very annoying, unwanted noise. I've been trying to come up with ways to fix the solution without having to go to hobie about it, but I'm pretty empty on a permanent solution. I've tried numerous styles of shims, a robber type grommet and wrapping it in tape. Nothing works in a way that it will permanently resolve the issue. Anyone have any other ideas, does anyone else experience this? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...gejpeg_2_9.jpg |
I have the same issue but for some odd reason it doesn't happen all the time. The clicking sound will start, keeps going for what seems like an eternity and will magically stop. Its been doing this for quite some time now and I'm not sure if the cause is the same as yours but since I haven't had any major issues since it started I never bothered looking for the culprit or a fix. Try to not play with your shaft so much and the clicking sound might go away.:D

$hit-can the adjustment lever and through-bolt the pedal shafts to the drums. If you do have a problem with the adjustment lever/pins it will eventually lead to cracked adjustment holes. Been there, done that...

try tightening all your cables a 1/2-1 crank on all 6 nuts. Usually the clicking comes from the cable moving across the drum.
|
So now you gotta play with your nuts for the shaft to be all good.
:D (sorry, just couldn't help it) |

Grind some sand, fish slime, and scales around the pin and the noise will stop. LOL Mike

Also make sure you are not bottoming out and hitting the hull. If so change to the next number up.

Maybe we should contact Hobie, they may or may not know there is an issue with the new drives.
