very cool video Greg...no wonder bat rays dont go for the sardine as often as the squid. what a struggle.

vincentek9 08-05-2012 09:07 PM

i LOVE your posts with your downrigger camera. was there a bunch of dead squid at the bottom of the ocean floor?

Baja_Traveler 08-06-2012 06:11 AM

Cool videos! I liked all the squid egg sacs on the bottom.

What camera are you using?

bus kid 08-06-2012 07:06 AM

Great video Greg thanks, but next time try to remember to turn off the night vision! before you hit the record button.:D

GregAndrew 08-06-2012 08:33 AM

Yeah, Squid eggs not dead Squid on the bottom. I am using the GoPro2 with the new Underwater housing/lens.

Great vid. The molas going after the dodger and camera were a real surprise. It's cool to know what gets attracted by BB set up . Mike

Cant watch it on phone says video is nog avalible for mobil devices. :(

TheBentRod 08-06-2012 08:59 AM

Thanks Greg for the videos. I know a few guys that used down riggers on a regular basis for fishing. The value is pointed out with your videos. I can't wait for your next one.

nice work!

addicted2sp33d 08-06-2012 09:27 AM

Strong work there Greg! Thanks for sharing. I was hoping that Thresher would take a bite!

Is the water really that green down there? Is it just the camera enhancing certain tones?

PapaDave 08-06-2012 11:09 AM

Cool video, did the halibut take the bait?

How did you rig the camera?

tunaseeker 08-06-2012 12:08 PM

Awesome vid Greg, thanks for sharing!

Old Man in the Sea 08-06-2012 12:39 PM

Thanks Greg - it was kinda surprising how many fish came after it but didn't swallow the bait and get hooked up...

roadx 08-06-2012 01:52 PM

great videos, always enjoy them. im surprised the mola even paid attention to the bait or dodger.very interesting.

GregAndrew 08-06-2012 02:02 PM

Mike, I would not technically call this a bounce ball setup cause I am not bouncing it to attract attention like those do. It is just a standard downrigger setup like they use for Salmon and Lake Trout up north (just maintained very close to the bottom).

danjor, I can't remember how to allow it to be viewed by mobile devices. It used to be much more simple on YouTube.

addicted, I am glad the Thresher did not take the bait, and same for the BSB. I can get a bit stressed out trying to make a good clean quick releases on fish that I don't intend to keep and get stressed out easy.

Papa, The Halibut hit, but spit the bait without getting hooked or pulling hard enough to free the line from the clip.

Randy, the funny stuff is the fish that get hooked up and glide along with the setup until they can shake the hook free. Never having released the clip.

What are those snake like things in the water? I saw millions of those things in Newport Harbor a couple of weekends ago, and was wondering what they were. They seemed to be individual cells that linked into a snake like chain and could swim. Anybody know what they are?

GregAndrew 08-06-2012 05:31 PM

Salp is what they are.

mtnbykr2 08-06-2012 06:35 PM
