Mission Bay 7/14 AM

I had a few hours while my wife had to work some overtime this morning so I did some shore fishing in Mission Bay.

I caught a big-ish skate, about 36" wingtip to wingtip, abut 1/2 of my 7'0" rod. It looked a bit weird because it had a stubby little tail and was wider than it was long. It also had a pointy nose, and it kept growling at me as I was removing the hook.

I didn't have any way to take it home, so I released it - anyone know what it is?

P.S. It's not a sting ray - I know what those look like.
