Best kayak dolly cart?
 

I have a home made dolly which works OK with my previous kayak (cobra explorer), but now i have a tarpon 160, which is a lot heavier, my dolly works still works OK on normal ground, but once i got to the sand, i am having a hard time.......anyway, it just not working.

Any advise to get which dolly is good for transport heavy kayak over the sand? i am getting tired to make another one, so i just going to buy one...

Just change the wheels.you need some soft ballon wheels. Andy sells those grey hobie wheels.

I just going to give my current dolly to my friend which have a small kayak....so i need a new one anyway, any suggestion?

If you are rolling across the sand you need to have larger tires(width) with low pressure to distribute weight further.

The one you have listed in the link where the Kayak sets on top of the cart I would recommend. The scupper hole carts have been known to cause issues with the scuppers and could lead to leaks. I remember having a conversation with Andy and Jim Sammons about that a couple of times.

If you are tired of sand get one with grey balloon tires. It well be easier to pull in the sand

I have not posted for some time now, and hope I am not violating any protocol. A while back, I ran across a great DIY website from Palmetto where there are two designs for quality dollys, Here is one I used successfully, and since then they have a new video of one made out of steel.

This is the design I have. I actually used an old Hobie Kayak cart as the structure, but added the PVC supports. I like it, works pretty well.

I got the C-tug cart with solid tires and am happy with it.

A little pricey, but have had no problems.

A little lube on the small metal bits and the thing should last a long time.

Avoided scupper carts because I thought I was going to put my transducer there (it's in hull instead, but I'm glad I went this route; no need for that added stress on the yak)

Since you will be using it in sand, you gotta go with the wheeleez type tires. The knobby type tires are pretty useless in the sand, but perfect for pavement or hard paths.

I've got these, and the big balloon tires practically float over the sand, even when the sand is all soft and torn up like it is at La Jolla right now.

Hobie makes one with the balloon tires if you are looking for a scupper mount, although I've always been a little leery using a scupper mount in the sand, because it might cause a little more stress on the scuppers pulling across the sand than using it on flat ground.
