Camping and yaking
Looking for a place to take the family camping that's also yak friendly. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Buy yourself some huddleston lures and go to lake silverwood!
Very beautiful, huge lake, great camping, and chance to catch 5-30lb stripers! |
Carpinteria beach by Santa Barbara. Incredible family camping.

Just need to reserve your spot 6 months in advance OR the ranger tells me. . . from time to time during the week they have cancelations that are offered on a first come first serve basis.

I just saw some pictures of carpinteria st. Beach and it looks awesome... Is shore fishing allowed there as well? I've been looking for a place that you can camp right off the beach and fish the shoreline with my boys... This place looks like it hit it right on the head... Thanks....

Virginia Lakes......Eastern Sierra.......pretty cool place with a couple lakes for kayaks and a couple back country lakes with a day hike.......of course, there is a lot of options in the Sierras
|
any of the campgrounds in the big sur area. Beautiful large pines and cypress everywhere. Dozens of hiking trails, close and mostly easy coastal access, and beautiful coastline. To boot, epic fishing from the kayak or from shore. There is an inshore rockfish fishery up there that even puts local inshore boat stuff to shame. Multiple times ive seen 20+ lb lingcod and big blue and brown rockfish and massive cabezon.
if you plan on fishing the shore or the kayaks check out www.pierfishing.com and look up a guy surf samurai and he should point you in the right direction for fishing from shore. Lots of guys on there that can point you in the right direction on launch points for the kayak as well. |
Carpinteria beach, if you want to camp right on the beach you need to reserve way ahead. However, there are a bunch of sites that are in the back rows and in the grass area you can probably still get.
Great fishing from the beach with usually mild surf. Hiking trail along the coast, visit the sea lion rookery on the south end of the campground. Perfect family place. |
Carp is the best.... and the Island Brewery, is a short stroll away from the campground.

I too was going to suggest the eastern sierras. So many places to fish and camp up there. Also many other great coastal suggestions above.
I guess it really depends where you live and how far you want to drive. picacho is fun and is slated to be closed at the end of the month so may be a good time to go and enjoy the fishing and camping there. http://www.friends4picacho.org/ |
