I'm a born and bred Steeler fan but I loved watching this guy play. Met him once in Gaslamp and dude was as nice as can be. Godspeed.

A sad ending. Only the most incredible pain and hopelessness leads to wanting to feel nothing.

Very sad indeed! But when I found out the news, my first reaction was...OK. You can say that I have been emotionally detached from news regarding celebrities. They don't represent the world I live in.

Not taking away from the good he did for the community (he gave back more than others), but I just find it difficult to empathize with these stories.

Does anyone know that a veteran commits suicide every 80 minutes? Never saw that in a headlines, because we don't idolize veterans on the same level as celebrities....

This is very true. While I do personally idolize Veterans, I know all too well most do not. This is still, nonetheless, sad.

Sad to hear. He was a great guy on and off the field. no matter how great things look on the outside, You never know what is going on on the inside.

I'm a combat vet, and I've lost a hell of a lot more friends to suicide and run ins with law enforcement than enemy fire. It only makes me more empathetic to his families loss. A human being is a human being. His deeds or misdeeds do not make the loss any less, and how the press presents these losses is not the fault of those who pass. I promise you the American public will morn the loss of a veteran as much as they would the loss of a celebrity...It is the press who decide what you read in the news, do not let the media dehumanize your perception.It's not our place to judge or ridicule.

Most definitely. Don't let the media tell you who the American public mourns. Mourning is a personal and private act. This story is not over. There is more to it.

Well said! Yes, a life is a life....However, I was simply touching on the fact that celebrities who die tragically are portrayed (yes, by the media) in such a way, that people have this disconnect with their own reality. Remember Whitney Houston, Anna Nicole Smith, & Amy Winehouse?

I hope I'm not coming off as cold-hearted? I'm not. I just don't have the emotional attachment that comes with celebrity death(s). I never judge nor ridicule; I'm just stating how I feel (my perception) about these tragic situations.
