Newport, 4-9-12

Launched about 6:15 with Landwhale and SaltyDog. Very Very light SW breeze and no clouds. Water was pretty clear and definitely cold, maybe 56º. Tide was negative and the mud smelled like crap, but we launched and started fishing right away. The other guys started on the buoy line, but I went deeper. The fishing was slow but we picked at the bass (short sandies for me). I moved over and joined the boys and got a nice spotty (for today anyways). Eventually we tried the moored boats and I picked up another spotty. But, other than that it was even slower there. Worked our way back to the buoy line and I managed one more sandy. As others have reported there was tons of bait popping up all over. At times the balls were so thick my meter was reading them as bottom.

Color was definitely an issue today. Light colors were key for me. 3" Flurrys with Hot Sauce in either key lime, red fish, or gums were the only ones to get bit regularly. I did get my best fish on spoiled rotten though.

The wind never came up and we had the sun shining all morning. Having a seat with no butt cushion and really slow fishing I called it a day at 10:30 and the guys decided to do the same. We were hoping the spotties had turned on, but they haven't yet. Still, it was good to be out and good to meet a new face. We'll be fishing again soon.

Thanks for the report..

You should invest in one of those gel seating pads.. I have one and it makes a big difference.

Just waiting to find out if I'm going to buy a T140. If I don't and keep using Steve's P15 I'll buy a seat with a cushion.

what cushion do you guys use?
my stock hobie seat makes my butt sore and also aggravates my sciatica.

I picked up the Hobie i Comfort..pricey but night and day on the ass bones. I looked for the CoD inflatable I used to have but it looks like theyre discontinued for now...too bad as theyre half the price.
