black seabass

I had a couple people ask me at work, "Did ya see the seabass on the news?" I asked "blacks or whites?" they did not know the difference.

Finally tracked down the video.

I saw the headline on cnn.com online and was hoping it was wsb. Still an awesome video to see. Good thing they are protected. They could be speared way too easy.

BSB on CNN

great video of the BSB, lots of them, but they have been there for quite awhile- according to CNN, did you know they grow to 150 pounds? SHOCKING! CNN listed it as "sea bass as big as 8 year olds", classic- those were all kids in the vid, spotted and cool looking, but babies- mom and dad could swallow 8 year old kids for dinner!! The fat checkers hanging with them were cool. I was shocked that the diver they interviewed saw schools of macs and even some "Yellowtails"! Thanks, rook! Kind of bummed that diver guy was in favor of more closed areas- where was the man in the grey suit? That would have been nice. :D

Great video, but the facts were dumb, I don't think those BSB just migrated there from Shangri La. Guy would have a whole new story if he knew about the croaker and door mats that call that zip code home.

I got this one on Saturday. First time I have caught one. Hit the flylined greenie. Pulled real hard. A couple minutes into the fight it didn't feel like a yt anymore. I was surprised at how quick it came in for how big it was. Guessing around 80#. Cool fish.

I was glad to have help unhooking it as I remember hearing the stories about Arne's misfortune with his gear. Mine came up still very much alive and kicking. The swim bladder never really filled with air, so it was trying to swim back down even before Brad got the hook out.

Actually they get much bigger!

They don't reach sexual maturity until they are 65-70 lbs and can go over 500 lbs and live for well over 100 years! Her's a big one caught off Catalina almost 100 years ago! Piranha :? 8)

Hey Tyler,

Saw you on the fish. I had metered a big group of LARGE fish hanging close together at the edge of a hole. Dragged a surface bait over the area and threw the iron till I pretty much figured out what they were. I'm surprised at just how accurate my meter has been in sizing up fish, bait balls etc. I metered one off the point and dropped bait down to it thinking it was a WSB but brought up a BIG BSB. Meter marks looked the same this time, just more of them. Glad to hear it released well.

Gee Jim, I really didn't think you'd recognize me! It took me all of 1914 to eat that baby! 8)
