newbish mpla question

I've been wanting to get out to la jolla again but the mpla stuff has kinda freaked me out a bit i cant afford a stupid fine just cause i stopped in the wrong spot

i've been looking at the maps but since i don't have a GPS i was worried about heading out
Just wanted to ask a few questions from ppl who have gone out since then
From what i can tell you just have to get out past the point near the kiddie pool ?
from the regs it looks like you can pickup mackerel for bait inside the area ?
thanks for any info in advance

YES the new reserve stops just west of the point west of the cove.

NO you need to be west of the both the bouys and the point at the cove. Just paddle west until you see other people fishing. The area they are talking about that is open to catch bait is north of the old reserve near the pier to blacks beach... the old reserve line is marked y the yellow bouys...

I don't think the DFG will be handing out tickets for a long time so I wouldn't worry about that.

Just go fish!

As long as you make sure you don't fish in the old reserve you should be OK.

As stated above, I don't think there will be much enforcement especially with no markers out there and no GPS on your ride..
But if you want to care,

Basically...

1. North of the pier you can only fish for bait until you get up to the golf course, then it's open again.

2. Straight out from the beach it's the same, just fish outside of the yellow buoys.
Same link as above.

3. You'll have to get pretty far south before the next one begins. Draw an east/west line out from Winamar street if you know the area. Then don't fish south of the line until you reach Crystal Pier in PB:

Those are the 3 areas, in super basic terms.

Tight lines.

Old vs. New conservation areas

Are there any overlay maps that comapre the old reserve areas compared to the new ones?

Willy 02-08-2012 07:56 PM

Yes. The first map I linked to in my last post shows the old reserve in red.
Everything else in that map, and the other map is new.
