OK Trident Ultra's Now at OEX Mission Bay
7 Attachment(s)
Just got our first shipment of Ultra 4.7's and 4.3's. We've been eager to check these things out, and they look really cool. Transducer mounts, reversible rod pod hatches, bait tank option, cooler/fish storage option, replaceable wear plate on keel, all molded handles, tons of threaded inserts, and big flared bows.

That is awesome, I currently use the 4.7 and it is a great kayak, paddled the 4.3 at OR this year and was very impressed too. The forward hatch is changed on the new ones, may have to upgrade. :drool5:
So stoked to have you guys as an OK dealer now. |
Hey, I have the exact same 2 kayaks at OEX Sunset Beach. I talked to Mark O about getting myself a 4.3 demo.........it may be my next favorite kayak! 7 inches longer than the T13 and about 1/2 an inch narrower.

$$??
|
That is great Andy, didn't know you were also going to have OK's.
Let me know if I can be of any help. |
MSRP on the 4.3 is $1599
4.7 comes standard with rudder for $1749. These are imported from New Zealand, hence the added expense. I am always willing to price match current competitors prices on my in store stock. |
Wow looks like some nice yellowtail or seabass storage in the back there.

Includes a killer seat.
http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwegall...0/IMG_0051.jpg 4.3 has 2 flush mounts as well as these 2 molded rod holder/gaff/net, the threaded middle insert is for a light pole. http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwegall...0/IMG_0052.jpg The stainless tube is hollow for running your wires into the rod pod cover, hole in the center of recess is opposite the transducer mounting area. http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwegall...0/IMG_0053.jpg |
Is it just me?
Why do I keep looking at other kayaks and asking myself "why can't Hobie include some of these features in their design?" Transducer cutouts, light pole receivers, etc. even the hull design a little more than the "tub" of the hobie. Imagine a hobie with some of the features found on other yaks, it would be like a water Mercedes!:) |

Funny I say why can't Ocean kayak just offer peddles?:D nice to see a seat upgrade...Finally a seat you don't throw in the trash immediately upon purchase? |
Weight?
What is overall true weight with hatches and rod pod etc?

Just curious, whats up with New Zealand? I know Cobra is making several models of their kayaks there also. Are they a large market for fishing kayaks or what? |
I currently do not have a scale to weigh these, so can only go by the published weights
http://www.oceankayak.com/kayaks/ang...ent_ultra_4.3/ http://www.oceankayak.com/kayaks/ang...ent_Ultra_4.7/ I think New Zealand's proximity to Australia is why. |
Add a couple peddles and I might be interested.
When I read this post, I started thinking about Apple versus the rest of the tablet and phone market. Most of the competitive products are miles ahead when it comes to taking advantage of the latest technology but the Apple stuff just works and the customers keep coming. The same can be said about Hobie versus the rest of the kayak world. Hobie hulls and fishing-related design aspects are usually a few years behind the rest of the industry, just like Apple. Fortunately for them, they have the Mirage Drive. Without that, or something that works as well, I cannot see any reason to be looking for a new ride any time soon. Bob |
Ocean Kayaks are the best! I need the new model. It's good to have the best of both worlds sometimes.

just saw these boats at the store and I can say they are awesome. Great design features, and robust construction. Love the hatches, both forward and center line hatch with the rotating feature. Almost overbuilt, thick gaskets and super strong carry handles. Can't wait to try one out.

The Ultras have a ton of cool features. Works great with the Lowrance Scupper mount.

We've been playing with the 4.3 in this winter's larger surf. Those curvy lines are built for fun.
