LJ 8-7

Fish continue to bite. Picked up three more today, all around 8-10lbs. Couldn't get the baits past the YT, so had to throw the iron to catch some 'cudas. Hope this keeps up.

Tough break Kurt, pesky yellows!! How was the wind?

vellocity 08-07-2006 02:38 PM

damn yellowtails, glad you kept a few to distract a furbag incase they came to steal your cudas!!
congrats Kurt!

i saw A&J coming across Casa's around lunchtime.. watched a big south set keep them on their toes... almost caught a pair of neon green yaks though!!

It was a bit breezy in the early morning. Pretty bumpy conditions. Then it seemed to die out for a couple of hours. Then it started to come up again around 10:30 when I was landing. The current was really ripping and made for a hard paddle in.

Aaron&Julie 08-07-2006 05:45 PM

Nelz, you saw that, huh? Did you catch those waves on your board?
That set definitely tightened us up a bit, and made us think of the rogue wave that Brad wrote about. Looked to be 15 feet from our perspective (non-surfer) as all three that rolled in then were definitely taller than our 12.5 foot kayaks.

Pretty big macs at the pier, most of mine were around 9 inches. Only one runt for me, released and some cuda, boney, and calicos. Hung out around NW and dragged south. Saw the NSF swing wide and look around the weather bouy before settling into the kelp, saw another sportie looking way off TP. Very fishy at dawn, big baitballs. Throwing the iron into them and hooking cudas. Loooooooong paddle in had me on the beach around 11:30.

This has been a great bite, remember when everyone was lamenting over the kelp disappearing, and its negative effect on the pelagics.... I never said that!! :D I still hope it comes back!!

Andy, Cool picture!

I'll need to remember Vellocity's idea of sacrificing a cuda or bonita (or in Vellocity's case, a yellowtail) the next time a furbag sets up watch waiting for me to land a yellowtail. Happened to me saturday. The yellow, nor I, never had a chance. Don't want to hurt the critters  but need a few M-80s to give the furbags a sore throat.

Nice haul Kurt. Is that three tails in two consecutive days?

Tell me about it, same thing happened to me... not much you can do, after it ended I wondered why I had fought for the fish for so long. Guess you never want to lose a fight. This is the first time this has happened to me in 3 years so not so bad. *** Do not try this at home ***No sealions were touched, nor harmed during filming. *** There is some cursing in these videos, so if you don't like F-bombs you may not want to click on the links!

Not consecutive days, but consecutive trips. I'm stoked.

Iceman 08-07-2006 07:21 PM

I think Kurt caught more YT today than....last year

Sorry Kurt my meanstreak is showing

I was gonna say here is the 6 pounder I released or what Kurt calls 8-10, but I did show some restraint

yeah, i saw Aaron stop to clear a line or wind in one rod when the sets started to loom in! i had just got out of the water and was on the cliff when i saw the 2 white yaks paddlin in, i knew it was you! Julie looked very confident casually paddling over those big ones, can't say that for those two guys in the neon green yaks! i think they might have soiled their shorts on that set!!

good solid SW swell, but very inconsistent with long lulls

steveooo 08-07-2006 08:03 PM

I was just in front of A&J when that set rolled through, one guy in the rental was airborne off the back side of the wave. Sweet.
3 tails for me today 8#, 10#, and a 25 lber on the way in that took a monster mack. LOOOOONG paddle/peddle in, current was RIPPING!!!

Actually I caught more YT today (or Saturday) than I did in the first 11 months of last year. Than I had that 4 YT day in December. :D So the last two days have been kind of disappointing.

A pic of Andy from January when he wasn't so mean.

Iceman 08-08-2006 06:53 AM

I have just been a little bitter since you had that 4 YT day. I have never had 4 in one day :D

I want to get my son out for his first (maybe WED), these are great size for your first.

kurt 08-08-2006 02:37 PM

He'll catch four. :P
