Here's the real question now! Those who bought the stolen kayak and paddle boards for him are they actually going call the police and say they bought an item from him?

Unfortunately, many people get stung by bad guys selling stolen stuff on Craig's list. I was one of them. I bought a couple bikes from a guy a couple years ago. He seemed legit. He even drove a Mercedes SUV.

About a month later the police called me asking if they could interview me about some stolen bikes. They found my name and email address in a computer that they seized from a guy suspected of selling a bunch of stolen stuff in Craig's list.

I met with the officers and let them look at the bikes that I bought. Their serial numbers matched some stolen items so they were confiscated.

The guy I bought the bikes from is now in jail but I am out the cost of the purchases. I am not sure what lesson there is here but I guess "Buyer Beware" is probably the best thing to take from this.

If anyone reading this bought something from this guy, there is a very good chance that a cop will be knocking on your door one of these days. You will not be in trouble for buying the stolen goods but you will most likely have to give them back. You will not be compensated for your loss.

You beat me to the punch. I believe there some sort of claim for compensation that can be filed when you are a victim, I don't know exactly how it works but I've seen it done before.
